The Director of Transportation is responsible for the leadership and performance of a transportation system responsible for a $24 million budget involving the movement of approximately 500 loads/week and $8 million head of livestock/year. Ability to manage and develop a team of logistic experts who can effectively plan, communicate and improve a transportation system heavily weighted towards contract haulers will be critical in this role. The Director of Transportation will be expected to collaborate with internal resources in production, marketing and pig flow personnel as well as external independent farmers and contractors. Ability to plan strategically, analyze opportunities and create value is a key expectation of this position. Additional responsibilities include the development and continuous improvement of the business planning process, as well as the ongoing management of both operational and financial performance within the transportation department.
|Duties:|| Responsible for the strategic planning and operational performance of the companies live haul operations.|
Responsible for managing movement, tracking, and results of internal and external swine movements of the company.
Implements strategies that will increase the efficiency of swine movement and reduce damage to product during loading and transit.
Creates plans and development opportunities on an individual and team basis.
Improve implementation and methods to track and report on performance.
Responsible for the development and execution of a sustainable capacity plan respecting seasonal load fluctuations of the business.
Manage the seasonal stocking densities of all movements in trailers focusing on improving value in Live Haul cost of transport.
Responsible for internal communications and presentations related to KPIs, program updates and on-going program information.
Manages and proactively seeks to improve effective communication links between independent contractors, growers, production team, Marketing and Transportation throughout all levels in the company.
Provide constructive feedback systems for the Logistics function, including contract haulers and load crews.
Develop and maintain a contract plan that ensures two- way accountably between drivers and Christensen Farms.
Determine logistics best practices to identify new and/or unique programs to improve the efficiency of operations and drive customer satisfaction system.
Drives efficiency in our logistic process, beyond just the tools utilized. Identify how the work gets done and determine what obstacles are in the way for improvement, both in and outside of the department.
Root cause analysis and problem resolution for all live haul logistics operations.
Manage transportation costs by continuously evaluating competitive rate structures, making adjustments to our plan as needed.
Develop over time a firm comprehension of pork production, bio security and animal handling best practices.
Responsible for yearly budgeting of the department and recommend any structural changes needed to support the company vision.
|Qualifications:||Requirements: Bachelors Degree and minimum 4 years of related experience. Experience in the swine industry is a plus. Must be TQA and FMCSA certified. Strong PC skills are required with experience in transportation scheduling software. Must have strong leadership skills, ability to effectively implement process improvements, and provide quality results.|
